About Luminate Bank

The Story of Luminate Bank

A story of vision, trust, and building what’s next.

Luminate Bank’s story begins long before its name, back to 1937, when its doors first opened as Equity Bank with a commitment to serving communities with integrity and trust. That foundation still stands today, but what defines Luminate is how that legacy has been reimagined for the future.

That evolution took shape in the mid-2000s, when Eric Lovins and Taryn Reuter began building toward a different kind of financial services platform, one grounded in relationships and designed to give customers greater transparency and a clear path to long-term wealth.

In 2020, a group led by Taryn, Eric, and Thomas Payne purchased a bank and a mortgage company, rebranding them as Luminate Bank and Luminate Home Loans, names inspired by the Latin root for “light.” This defining chapter marked a renewed commitment to guiding people through complex financial moments, including homeownership, with clarity, transparency, and care. Just as importantly, it was a moment of conviction for the broader team, many choosing to follow and entrust their careers to the vision being built. Over time, that approach helped grow the organization from a six-person operation into a nationwide network of more than 700 professionals.

In 2025, Luminate Home Loans and Luminate Bank came together under a single brand: Luminate Bank. Working alongside CEO Marc Campbell, the leadership team continues to shape the bank’s next chapter by combining digital innovation with relationship-based banking and expanding its ability to serve customers through a broader range of financial solutions.

The results have been significant. Bank assets have grown from $62 million to $500 million in five years, while mortgage originations expanded from $22 million to more than $4 billion in just over a decade. This exceptional growth is the outcome of consistently delivering transparency, building strong relationships, and delivering long-term value to customers.

While much has changed since 1937, the goal remains the same: to build something enduring where people grow, customers feel genuinely served, and the future of banking is defined together.
